Hello again everyone! Just to keep you all up to date…

So our workshop this year was a great success! Since each workshop is 10 weeks long, our original hope had been to run two workshops every year, one per semester. Today we had a meeting and are beginning to work out new plans for next year. We are making plans for two full 10-week workshops next year!!

We’re continuing to contact the Oak Hill PTA and principal — we’ll be sending out volunteer information and next year’s officer applications soon. Stay tuned!

that’s a really cool idea Lily =D I’m tutoring a girl right now and I think it’s really helpful that teens work with kids - I don’t know if it’s true, but they just strike me as more empathetic and willing to really care about the kids they work with. of course, I’m biased cause I’m a teen, but still. I live right next to Oak Hill actually, and it’s so cool that your working with elem. kids cause it’s so easy to fall behind early and just never catch up. The girl I’m tutoring is kinda like that, and it’s hard working with her sometimes cause she’s struggling with basics I haven’t thought about for a long time, but can you imagine always being behind just cause you didn’t have that one important person to really teach you when you were a kid? ahhhhhh! kinda drives me desperate - which makes me really want to help her excel. I’m so glad you guys are doing this. (sorry for leaving such a long comment =P i’ll end soon promise) One thing you guys might want to think about doing once you really get things going - focus on kids who don’t have support from other people - like kids with parents who don’t speak English and can’t help them with their schoolwork, or kids living in underprivileged areas. anyways - this is getting really long =P You guys are amazing! keep it up and best of luck with your workshops! can’t wait for the next post =D
